First Circular
The 29th Meeting of the South Asian Languages Analysis Roundtable (SALA) will be hosted by the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, Karnataka, India, 6-8 January 2011.
In addition, a workshop on "Language Contact in South Asia" is planned for 10 – 31 January 2011.
The Conference is organized by:
a Local Committee consisting of Rajesh Sachdeva, P. P. Giridhar, Y.Sridhar Reddy
and an International Committee consisting of Peri Bhaskararao, Shobhana Chelliah, Alice Davison, P. P. Giridhar, Hans Henrich Hock, Bhadriraju Krishnamurti, Sadaf Munshi, Pramod Pandey, John Peterson, Rajesh Sachdeva, Karumuri V. Subbarao, Yogendra Yadav
The Keynote Speaker will be: Peri Bhaskararao (Title: "From Speech Signal to Morphemes: Approach from Speech Corpora of SA languages")
At this point, the following special/plenary sessions have been proposed:
a. Grammatical Structures/Analyses of under-analyzed languages of South Asia
b. Ancient Dravidian languages and indigenous grammatical traditions
c. Sanskrit grammatical tradition
d. Nilagiri languages
e. Language contact in South Asia
f. Multilingualism and multilingual education
In addition there will be other, general sessions.
The conference is followed by an (optional) excursion to Somnathpur Temple and/or Srirangapatnam (on Sunday, the 9th of January 2011)

Abstracts for the SALA conference are invited in all areas of South Asian languages and linguistics. They should not exceed one A4 or US Letter sized page (including the title, set in 12pt) and should be submitted electronically as attachments to email, preferably in pdf format, to the account below. Authors are requested to submit their abstracts in duplicate, one with author identification, the other without.
